Monte Cristo and Elvis French Toast Sandwiches- Virtual Cooking Class

DSL Chef Level: Intermediate (skillet use)

*Could modify and use a panini press, sandwich press or George Forman grill instead of skillet

Ingredients: (Carly will make both sandwiches, but you can choose just one if you’d like)

For the Monte Cristos:

  • 4 slices of thin sandwich bread (we will make 2 savory sandwiches)
  • 4 slices of swiss cheese
  • 2 slices of deli turkey
  • 2 slices of deli ham
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • splash of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of butter, for the pan
  • Optional* honey mustard or even jam!

For the Elvis French Toast Sandwiches:

  • 4 slices of thin sandwich bread (we will make 2 sweet sandwiches)
  • 1/4 cup of peanut butter or any nut butter
  • 1 small banana 
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • splash of milk
  • 1 tablespoon of butter, for the pan
  • *optional maple syrup, for dipping

Make the Monte Cristos:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. On a slice of bread stack 1 slice of swiss cheese, 1 slice of turkey, 1 slice of ham, and then another slice of cheese
  3. On the other slice of bread add the condiment of your choosing, place bread on top
  4. Do the same for your 2nd sandwich

Make the Elvis sandwiches:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Spread peanut butter on both all of your bread and add banana slices
  3. Put sandwiches together, the peanut butter will act as glue!

Directions to cook both sandwiches:

  1. Wash your hands
  2. Heat a skillet to medium/high heat
  3. Mix together eggs and milk and place in a shallow dish
  4. Add butter to the pan and melt it
  5. Dip your sandwich into the egg mixture and place on the skillet
  6. After 3 or 4 minutes, flip sandwich and cook on other side
  7. Repeat until all of your sandwiches are finished
  8. Enjoy with a side of warm syrup!
