Louisville, Ky. (May 5, 2024) –
Following their attendance at the Down Syndrome of Louisville (DSL) Gallop Gala in April, jockey Brian Hernandez and his wife, Jamie, felt compelled to make a difference for individuals with Down Syndrome. “Witnessing the joy and happiness, I told her we need to do something for them,” expressed Hernandez.

They reached out to DSL and generously offered to feature the organization’s logo on the pants he would wear while riding Thorpedo Anna in the Kentucky Oaks. “We are thrilled to have a small role in the historic 150th anniversary,” shared Down Syndrome of Louisville Executive Director Julie Torzewski. “While we anticipated some attention with Brian’s participation in the Oaks,” continued Torzewski, “we were overwhelmed by the spotlight Brian brought to this through his historic wins.”

Brian Hernandez etched his name in history this past weekend by securing victories in both the Oaks and the Derby!

On June 3, Hernandez’s Oaks day jockey pants will find a new home with one fortunate winner selected through a DSL raffle, accompanied by an autograph from the victorious jockey. “We opted for a raffle, aiming to appeal not only to DSL families but also to racing enthusiasts and supporters of Brian Hernandez,” explained Torzewski. “We have a compelling narrative of Down syndrome to share, one filled with inspiration, and Brian Hernandez’s generosity is instrumental in amplifying that message.”

Proceeds from the raffle will further the mission of Down Syndrome of Louisville, which is dedicated to supporting, educating, and advocating for its members and families.

Tickets to win the autographed Oaks-winning pants are priced at $50 each and can be conveniently purchased at www.dslwin.com. The winner will be announced on June 3 during DSL’s ‘Pro-Celebrity Golf Tournament.’ For more information, visit www.dsoflou.org.

Congratulations again to Brian Hernandez on a Kentucky Derby Double this weekend winning both the Derby and the Kentucky Oaks Friday!
