Hi DSL family! I’m so excited to introduce myself as your new grant writer, and I wanted to share a little about who I am, both personally and professionally.
Outside of work, family is everything to me. My wife Lori and I celebrated 30 years of marriage last month, and we have two amazing adult sons, Malcolm and Spencer. Our oldest son just welcomed his first child, our granddaughter Ella, which has been such a joy. When I’m not spending time with family, you’ll usually find me watching sports, catching a good movie, or curled up with a book.
My career path has taken a few interesting turns. I started in business-to-business sales, then moved into commercial construction management. Working alongside local not-for-profits who were building facilities sparked my transition into the nonprofit world, where I went on to serve as Executive Director of Crooked Creek Community Development Corporation and later Partners in Housing, the state’s largest provider of permanent supportive housing. After a merger brought that chapter to a close, I joined Grants Plus, and that’s actually how I first started working with DSL in a contract capacity about four years ago.
What excites me most about DSL’s mission is simple: the joy. It’s woven into everything we do, in our members, their families, and our staff. Everyone needs more joy in their lives, and I love that this organization gets to be a source of it. And honestly, I feel fortunate in a way most new hires don’t. Having supported DSL from the outside for the last few years, I’ve already seen firsthand the incredible impact we make. I know I’m walking into something special, and I can’t wait to be part of it from the inside.
When it comes to how I approach my work, I love problem-solving and checking things off the to-do list. I try to assume the best of intentions in everyone I work with. We all make mistakes, but if we trust that everyone’s trying to do right by our members, those mistakes are fixable. At the end of the day, I’m mission-first. My job is to find solutions that work for our members and figure out how to make everything else fall into place around that.
A fun fact about me: I used to travel constantly for work, four or five round-trip flights a month, but I haven’t set foot on an airplane in over 20 years.
Most of all, I want the DSL family to know how proud I am to be considered part of it. I promise to earn that place every single day.
