Things to Consider Before Applying to SEE

What we provide:

  • We use best practices for educating students with Down syndrome.
  • We have sensory-friendly environments and a sensory room for brief breaks as needed.
  • We provide daily notes home from the teacher.
  • Behavior support plans will be followed.
  • Time and space for student’s own outside therapy providers to work with them during the day
  • Willingness to communicate with classroom teachers and other professionals to make sure educational and social needs are met with consistency
  • Toileting assistance if needed

Behavior Considerations

  • We will work with each student and family to be proactive through support strategies, accommodations, positive behavior management strategies, and redirection.
  • We prioritize the safety of all our students, but if a student harms others, or themselves, or cannot participate in our program safely with support from our staff, SEE camp will not be a good fit.
  • The family will be required to provide a current behavior intervention plan, and the child’s behaviorist will be required to meet with the staff prior to the beginning of camp.
  • If the student does not have a behaviorist and exhibits aggressive behavior that is harmful to others, they may need to be picked up from camp. However, we will work with a child as much as possible to ensure a successful experience
