Board Spotlight – Meet Dwight

Dwight Newton

Reason for Being Part of DSL: Since I was 9 years old I have had the amazing experience of spending time with and around individuals who help me understand compassion and caring. These are not natural traits of mine.

When I was 9 I got introduced to a class at the Stewart Home School in Frankfort, and from that day on I was hooked. I had different levels of participation over the years, and when I was assigned to Corporate Community Charitable events with Zoeller here in Louisville, I used that as the most recent opportunity to serve. Meeting Tim and Julie actually changed my life and my aspirations from then on. I have some loose ends to tie up, but my goal is to be involved and working with this community full-time.

In the whole scheme of things, I answer to three entities, and in this order: God, Michelle and Janice (my mom). After that it comes and goes. Overall, I have been told I am a pretty good guy, more emphasis on

I was born in Frankfort, KY, but I’ve lived in Bardstown, Nelson County since 1995 – will always be a brought in.

I have an amazing forgiving, merciful, gracious, loving, kind, caring, extremely intelligent (about most things) wife, Michelle Gilkey Newton m. 1996.

Three sons and I get to have 3 graduations this coming May ‘24

Cole – American University Law School

Clay – USC – World Bachelor of Business Program

Zeke – Bardstown High School

Pets – Brother and Sister Dogs – Zeus and Zoey

Favorite place in the world is by my fire pit contemplating all the issues of being in HR for 30 years, and being responsible for three men on the planet and the impact they have and will have.

Favorite quote: Treat everyone better than they thought you would

Favorite color combination: Maize and blue

Favorite thing to say to someone you stumble across who is crying: “Just breathe”
